Setting Up Your Training Program

Whether it's your first program or you need a new one, setting up your training program starts from the Today tab and walks you through a few quick choices before your plan is generated.

Building your first program

Tap "Build My Program" on the Today tab to get started, but before you do, we recommend finding your Formula first. Completing your Run Form Assessment and Runner Movement Screen means your plan gets personalized around your most up-to-date running form, mobility, and stability, rather than a blank slate.

Building a new program

If your current program no longer fits, say you've decided on a different race, tap "Build a new Program" at the bottom of the Today tab, in day view. A few situations call for this in particular: a new injury, taking significant time off, finishing your current plan, or deciding to train for a new race.

Training without a specific race

If you don't have a specific race in mind, select "General Fitness" under the "Your running goals" and the builder will adjust accordingly.

These programs aren't only for runners with a race on the calendar. We also support people who simply want to build running into their lifestyle, whether that's general health, staying active, or just enjoying running as a habit rather than working toward a finish line.

Choosing General Fitness still gets you the full RunDNA experience: your program is personalized around your Formula and training load the same way a race-focused plan would be, with easy runs, long runs, and key workouts built around your progression. The only real difference is that there's no race-day taper or peak, since there's no specific event to build toward.

What to expect

During setup, you'll be asked a series of questions about how you see running fitting into your weekly schedule. Once you've answered these, you'll confirm your schedule before moving on. From there, you'll get a full program overview, and that's when you can opt in for a 2 week free trial period.
