What Is the Key Focus?
Your Key Focus is RunDNA's short list of the 3 highest-priority things to work on right now, related to your pacing, your gait, and your movement screen results.
Rather than handing you a long list of everything that could be improved, RunDNA narrows it down to the 3 things that matter most right now.
Which 3 rise to the top is guided by RunDNA's movement-first philosophy: prioritizing whatever is likely to have the biggest impact on your injury risk and performance. That prioritization runs within guardrails built by our team of physical therapists and coaches, so what you see reflects real coaching judgment rather than an open-ended guess.
What Key Focus currently draws from
- Pace modification, comparing your stated easy pace to what's appropriate given your goal race time.
- Your gait and running form, based on your Run Form Assessment.
- Your RMS results, covering mobility, strength, and stability.
How it stays balanced
Your Key Focus is built to stay balanced across different types of issues, rather than being dominated by results from any single area, like your movement screen. It's also built to avoid redundancy: if you have more than one injury flagged, only the most significant one will show up here, instead of multiple versions of the same concern.
When it updates
Your Key Focus can change whenever a new priority is identified, whether that comes from your training patterns or from updated information you've provided, like a new Movement Report, an updated goal race time, or a newly logged injury.
Reading each focus item
Tap any item in your Key Focus to open the full explanation. You'll see what it means and why it was chosen for you, so the advice never feels like a mystery.
Your focus items are tailored to you, but they often look like this:
- "Drive your knee forward"
- "Improve your ankle mobility"
- "Add strength training"
As more training features become available, additional categories may factor into your Key Focus over time.
