Why Your Running Form Matters

Yes, it's worth paying attention to your form, even without a race on the calendar. Form is more adjustable than most runners think, and small technique changes can help you cover the same distance at the same effort more efficiently.

Most runners think improvement comes down to one thing: run more miles, get faster. But a lot of what makes a run efficient or inefficient happens below the surface, in the mechanics you can't see with the naked eye. Stack enough miles on movement patterns that aren't working, and it tends to catch up with you eventually, whether that's a nagging injury, a plateau, or training hard without the results to show for it.

RunDNA starts where most running apps stop: how your body actually moves. Small, targeted technique adjustments, the kind our Run Categories and cues are built around, can improve what’s called your running economy: how efficiently your body uses energy at a given pace. In practice, that means you cover the same distance at the same effort more efficiently, with less wasted energy and less stress on your joints and tissues over time.

"I don't have a race coming up, is this worth it?"

Running economy improvements help every run, race or not. Better mechanics mean your easy runs feel easier and you're building a more durable base for whatever you decide to train for next. You don't need a race on the calendar to benefit from moving better.

The goal isn't to chase a perfect stride. It's to find the changes that matter most for your body, and build the rest of your training around them.
