Plain-language definitions for the terms you'll see throughout your RunDNA reports.
Running metrics
- Cadence: how many steps you take per minute while running
- Vertical Oscillation: how much your body bounces up and down with each stride
- Ground Contact Time: how long your foot stays on the ground with each step
- Stride Length: the distance covered from one foot strike to the next foot strike of the same foot
- Contralateral Pelvic Drop: how much your pelvis dips toward the swinging-leg side while your other foot is planted on the ground
- Forward Lean: how much your body leans forward from the ankles as your foot passes underneath you
- Hip Adduction: how much your leg angles in toward the midline of your body while your foot is on the ground
- Hip Flexion: how far forward your thigh lifts during your stride
- Hip Extension: how far your thigh moves behind your body during your stride
- Knee Flexion: how much your knee bends while your foot is on the ground
- Strike from Center of Mass: how far in front of your body your foot lands
- Tibial Inclination: the angle of your shin relative to the ground at the moment your foot lands
- Stiffness: a measure of how your leg absorbs and returns force with each step, similar to how a spring behaves
- Ankle Pronation: how much your foot rolls inward after it lands
- Foot Inclination: the angle of your foot relative to the ground at the moment it lands
- Foot Strike: whether you land on your heel (rearfoot) or elsewhere on your foot (non-rearfoot)
- Ankle Dorsiflexion: how much your ankle flexes, bringing your foot up toward your shin, during your stride
- Asymmetry: for metrics that can be measured on both sides, how different your left side is from your right
