How RunDNA Uses AI
RunDNA is built to be your day-to-day running coach, powered by AI trained on real biomechanics and coaching expertise. It's not a stand-in for every part of in-person coaching, but for the ongoing guidance and accountability most runners actually need day to day, that's exactly what it's built to do.
A coach's job, day to day, is to look at how you're moving, track how you're progressing, and tell you specifically what to work on next. That's the job RunDNA's AI is built to do. For runners who want that kind of ongoing guidance without hiring a human coach, RunDNA is built to fill that role.
What it can't replace
Some parts of in-person coaching aren't something an app can fully recreate: hands-on adjustments made in real time, a personal coaching relationship built over months or years, and hands-on clinical care for an injury. RunDNA isn't trying to replicate those pieces, and it doesn't diagnose or treat injuries.
When you need more than RunDNA can offer
If you're dealing with something that needs hands-on attention, like a persistent injury or anything that calls for a clinical exam, RunDNA is built to point you toward the right kind of professional rather than try to be one. We're working on making that connection more direct in future versions of the app. For now, check Find a Provider for a list of professionals to reach out to when you need that extra layer of support.
How the AI itself works
AI is what lets RunDNA interpret your movement data and turn it into the kind of specific direction a coach would give you after reviewing your form, just available every day instead of only during a session together. It's built on real biomechanics and coaching expertise, not a generic algorithm guessing at workouts.
